As An American student my own expereince living in the third world has given me a personal perspective on tourism. I have seen the effects that western tourist leave behind when they get ont their planes and fly away from the third world back to thier comfortable lives in the developed world. My main objective in creating this website is to give travelers something to concider. For those people who are asking, what is so wrong with tourism? check out some of the links and information available here, or do some research for yourself. Its very easy to simply and easy to think you are doing something great and boosting the economy in the third world but I want to encourage you think a little deeper.

Imagine if America was a tourist destination for people who are much wealthier then our richest people. Image going about your daily business and tasks and having foreigners photgraph you and stare at you as if you are some foreign entity, not a human. People of third world countries have a life, a culture and a way of living despite being poor, but tourism forces these people to cater to western vacationers, people who have time and money to just relax and travel around the world. These vacationers come to sit on thier beaches, while they drop and forget parts of thier world to cater to ours.

I do not have a solution to this problem or can tell you how you should utalize this information in your own life. This is an attempt to increase awareness about an issue that most of us take part in every year but that many people don't know enough about or tend to ignore.
