The Rigoberta Menchu Controversy

After winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 1992, a controversy was created around the image of Rigoberta Menchu with the allegation that Rigoberta was not being so truthful about her autobiography . The claimer, David Stoll, presented a careful research validated by eyewitnesses, legal data he collected, and information obtained from Rigoberta Menchu's half sister. It seemed that we had been foolished. Nevertheless, the Stoll overlooked certain key information mentioned by Jorge Rogachevsky in his review of the book published by Stoll Rigoberta Menchu and the Story of All Poor Guatemalans. The book written by Elizabeth Burgos me lla mo Rigoberta Ménchu y así me nacio la conciencia is the oral testimony of Rigoberta. The Latin American Testimony is a literary style in which a character will be the representative of an entire community. In addition, why on earth would did no one in Guatemala argue, after such acusations of sadistic and gruesome events commited against indigenous? Is it maybe because they true even if they did not happen to Ms. Menchu directly?
