Artist's description: My character’s story is based on an international news event. I chose for her to be a reporter in Thailand during the military coup that had just occurred in their capital city to depose their prime minister while he was out of the country. My goal was to log on to There.com and try to generate interest from the online community for the situation of my imaginary person. Originally, I wanted to tell how she was scared and how it became too dangerous for her to stay there, so she disappears. Eventually she would return to tell her online friends that she was safely back home. Not everything goes according to plan and it appeared harder to tell my story to anyone in There.com than I had originally anticipated. I tried to get used to talking to people and it took a little longer than I expected. I eventually told my story of how I am this 30-something journalist who is presently in the middle of the coup going on in Thailand. I changed my story as I researched more about the event. And, I actually told people that were interested that I was in fact perfectly safe and the most troubling part of the whole experience was that my boss was ending my stay in Thailand because of a misunderstanding in how peaceful the coup actual was. |
