Anastasia Krylova | The Albert Gore Veneration Project MySpace site, live performance, website, and installation link to the MySpace profile for Marina, a Russian woman who worships Al Gore |
excerpt from Marina's manifesto: You are currently looking at the infamous Albert Gore Shrine, accompanied by a record of my cyber life as an Albert Gore believer. It has been three years that I have held to my strong beliefs that Albert Gore, by definition, is worthy of the title saint (with a small ‘s,’ since he has not yet been canonized by the church.) Now, I do not mean to say a Christian saint, or a Hindi saint, or a Buddhist saint- no, none of that! St. Albert is a saint to us all, he does not discriminate in his outreach. St. Albert is saint because he has given up what could have been a normal and peaceful life, for the turbulent political life, not because of his own selfish needs but because of his unrelenting faith in the power of politics to help the future of our world. Our world is headed for hell- a hell that comes not after life, but within this life- the results of global warming. The earth will burn, our coasts will flood and people will suffer. This is why st. Albert’s coming forth and reminding us that we must stop our sinning, that we must stop drinking bottled water and driving our cars to our mailboxes to save our dear planet and ourselves! Since my views have been poorly received in the real world, I decided to enter the cyber community to see if there are any other souls out there who could help me spread the faith in st. Albert and his word. The responses that I received were many and varied. Some people assumed that I was a spammer, just rambling nonsensical and silly. Others thought that my beliefs were satirical and aimed at displaying my hate towards the politician Al Gore. How absurd! Others simply said “everyone is entitled to their own opinion.” Others were interested and asked me to explain my beliefs further and boy was I happy to oblige! Some blamed me of blasphemy and an afterlife in eternal hell. I was told to burn my shrine before I did any more damage to myself. I was even referred to several doctors. One guy asked me why I stopped taking my medication and told me to get back on it as soon as possible. |
